New Delhi: Independence Day craze has caught on in a big way. Restaurants, fashion designers and e-commerce websites are offering tri-coloured themed food, clothes and flags and apparels inspired by freedom fighters respectively to make it special.


As the country is set to celebrate the 67th Independence Day on Thursday, Vaango, a South Indian family restaurant, will celebrate it with tri-colour utthapams and square idlis, priced at Rs.99 each.

Not only that, the eatery is offering an exclusive 15 percent discount to the families of armed forces on I-Day.




Royal China has come up with tricolour chocolate brownies smothered in rich fudge sauce and tricolour dumpling teamed with sesame potato toast and cinnamon martini.

There is a special menu for children at the Hang Out cafe.

The eatery is offering tricolour sandwiches and pizzas. The place will also spread the message of patriotism amongst children with a special game and ride session starting Thursday and going on till Aug 18 at their outlets at Select Citywalk in Saket and DT Mega Mall in Gurgaon.

Mumbai-based restaurant Spice 52 has come up with tricolour vegetable Makhani. If that's not enough, one can enjoy a tax free meal along with a 15 percent discount if they visit the place Thursday.




Silverspoon Gourmet in the capital offers a delicious tri-colour platter, a combination of red pepper crepe, pesto crepe and a delectable mini blue berry cheese cake. The price range starts at Rs.800 and can go up depending on customers' preferences.

Gelato Italiano has come up with new ice cream flavour - Blackcurrant Storm. It will delight your taste buds without burning a hole in your pocket. Per scoop costs Rs.20. Starting Thursday, it will go on till Aug 20.

The offer is available across all Gelato Italiano outlets in New Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chandigarh.

E-commerce websites are too cashing in on the Independence Day fever.

Voylla.com, a Bangalore based online store to buy precious designer jewellery and accessories at affordable prices, launched the Tiranga collection. It offers a potpourri of funky neck pieces, earrings and bracelets made of vivid beads and gemstones in the colour like saffron, white and green.




Snapdeal.com is selling national flag, made in cotton, at a price of Rs.150.

"Pride in one's nation is determined by many aspects, and the emotion behind owning and flying the national flag is certainly one of them. This Independence Day, it is our attempt to make it easy and efficient for as many of us as possible to celebrate with our flag," said Kunal Bahl, co-founder and CEO of Snapdeal.com.

An online shopping club Fashionandyou.com gives you a chance to dress up like Rani Lakshmi Bai, India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu and more. Starting at Rs.499, the special collection ranges from silk saris to Nehru jackets.



Even the fashion brands are not far behind.

Apparel and accessories brand Study By Janak has come up with a thematic collection for the occasion. From kurtas teamed with tricolour stoles to salwar-kameez with tricolour detailing, there is everything for everyone at a price range starting from Rs.2,999.

"For the young and savvy, we have a host of accessories like saffron colour pocket squares or white ties that one can spruce up their ensemble with," said Vandy Mehra, group director of Study By Janak.

Chhabra 555, a fashion brand with whom actress Lara Dutta collaborated to unveil her sari collection, has introduced a special collection of salwar kameez. It offers clothes in vibrant hues, subtle embroideries and minimalist detailing.



Heena Malhotra, owner of the brand, told IANS: "Our inspirational muse is none other than Indians who are quite welcoming in using creative cuts and exotic vibrant hues. The definitive collection is motivated by the theme of liberty, which every Indian woman wants to sense in her day-to-day life. The collection starts from Rs.1, 250 and one can also avail oneself of discounts ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent on all products. The brand is available in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana.

Annu Creations is offering green polki necklace, ruby and emerald bangle and green diamond earring.
