Maharashtra
The vegetarian foods eaten in Brahman households of western Maharashtra are not quite known to the people from other regions. Here are some of the popular dishes.
Breakfast:
Thalipeeth- Best eaten with loni (butter)!
Sabudana Khichadi- (sabudana = sago) One of the favourites for people who are fasting, of course one doesn't have to be on a fast to relish this!
Dhirde- Made from various types of flours; has different names.
Lunch/Dinner:
Bhakri and Zhunka- Bhakri is a typical Marathi bread made from bajara or jowar.
Zhunka is also called Pithala, eaten with Bhakari.
Sadha Varan- The soul of home-food :) This looks quite plain, but tastes best with ghee and lemon.
