New Delhi: As per in Hindu culture every auspicious work begins with worship of Lord Ganesha.

According to religious sayings, after Lord Ganesha was beheaded, the entire universe was in danger as Goddess Parvati went into rage over death of her son.

Lord Shiva then resuscitated Lord Ganesha with an elephant head. Lord Ganesha then stopped Godess Parvati from mass destruction on earth. Hence, Lord Ganesha is called as 'Vighnaharta: The one who prevents difficulties'.

Upon this Lord Brahma blessed Lord Ganesha with a 'Vardaan' that every religious work would start only after worshiping Lord Ganesha.

Every year Ganesha pujan is done for prosperity, wealth, peace of mind and health to the individuals performing it.

It is said that Lord Ganesha as a child once feared going alone as his parents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati weren't around. It was then that Goddess Laxmi accompanied him to ward away his fear.

Since then Lord Ganesha never goes anywhere alone, Goddess Laxmi (The god of wealth) is always with him.

Therefore, Ganesha Pujan is always followed by Laxmi pujan and it is said that every Ganesha pujan is also done for wealth.

For many religious occasions like Wedding (where the first invitation is always given to Lord Ganesha), Yagya (where the first 'Ahuti' is given on the name of Lord Ganesha) and every puja is started with enchantig the name of Lord Ganesha.

The simple vidhi is to worship an idol of Ganesha, in case if there is no idol, then the pujan is done with rolling a holy thread around 'Supari' and that is worshipped as Lord Ganesha.
