Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian beauty queen and television host Andressa Urach, 27, has been hospitalised in serious condition after a cosmetic treatment to increase the size of her thighs, medical sources reported.
Urach Tuesday underwent a surgical procedure and remains sedated in the intensive care unit at Conceicao Hospital in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state, according to the latest medical bulletin.
A spokesman for the model said that doctors performed a "cleaning" procedure at the site on her leg where Nov 21 she underwent an operation to remove a product called hydrogel, which she had had injected five years ago to increase the size of her upper legs.
The spokesman said in a statement that Urach "is responding well to treatment".
Last Saturday, a week after the operation, Urach was hospitalised again for an infection in her left thigh resulting from the hydrogel injection.
Sunday and Monday, doctors drained the rest of the product from her leg, but her condition worsened and she was moved to the intensive care unit.
Hydrogel is a product used to increase the size of the buttocks and thighs. Its use is allowed in Brazil, albeit in very small doses.
As reported by the daily Folha de Sao Paulo, Urach had 400 millilitres of hydrogel injected into her legs, a quantity that is twice the recommended amount.
Urach is known in Brazil for being the runner-up in the 2012 Miss Bumbum contest for the sexiest backside and for having participated in the "A Fazenda" reality show.
Currently, she is a host on the Muito Show programme on Rede TV.
