Today, on 19th August, we're celebrating World Photography Day. The world has seen massive revolution in the field of photography. Clicking pictures of smiling faces in front of the camera are the things of past now. The acclaimed photographers are taking this art a notch higher by breaking all the bounds of conventional photography. So, to celebrate this day and honour the art of photography, let's recall some famous photographers of India.
Raghu Rai
One of the best known Indian Photographer and Photojournalist. Government of India honoured him with Padma Shree in year 1972 and he also received photographer of the year award from U.S.A in 1992. He has given his precious years to India today from 1982 to 1992. He wrote a book on photography Raghu Rai's India: Reflections in Colour and Reflections in Black and White. Atul Kasbekar
A well- known Indian Fashion photographer and Bollywood film producer. He is recognized for his Kingfisher calendar shoot. Atul was also the honorary chairman of the Photographer's Guild of India. Atul holds the distinction of being the first Indian to win the prestigious International Food and Beverage Creative Excellence Awards (FAB Awards) 2005, held at London, for his work on Kingfisher Calendar.
Dabboo Ratnani
Leading Indian photographer known for fashion photography, calendar photography and cover photographer of all leading magazines like Filmfare, Fermina etc.
He also done still photographs for the films like Om Shanti Om, Aatish, Blackmail, Fiza, Hera Pheri, Legend of Bhagat Singh, Aawara Pagal Deewana, Jhankaar Beats, Jism, Jo Bole So Nihaal, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.
Raghubir Singh
He was an Indian photographer known for known for landscape and documentary style photography. He was awarded by Padma Shree by Government of India in 1983. In the early 1970s, he was one of the first photographers to reinvent the use of colour at a time when colour photography was still a marginal art form. He work for very prominent magazines like National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times, The New Yorker and Time. He died at the age of 56 in year 1999.
