New York: Women who get cheated by their partners find it very difficult to move on. But researchers have claimed that women who get ditched by their unfaithful man to another woman actually end up winning in the long run.

According to researchers from Binghamton University, these women who have been cheated experience personal growth and development outside their relationships. While the other women who is now stuck with their unfaithful partner turn out to be the losers and is at risk of getting cheated.

Dr Craig Morris, an evolutionary biologist at Binghamton University in New York explains," If she will come out of the experience with higher mating intelligence that allows her to better detect cues in future mates that may indicate low mate value. Hence, in the long-term, she wins."

"The 'other woman' conversely, is now in a relationship with a partner who has a demonstrated history of deception and likely, infidelity. Thus, in the long-term, she loses," Morris added in the paper published in the Oxford Handbook of Women and Competition.

The study was conducted by the team from Binghamton University and University College London, involving 5,705 participants from 96 countries. This is the largest study done about relationship dissolution.

It is about how humans- women, in particular have made themselves to cope with breakups and manage to get over it.

"If we have evolved to seek out and maintain relationships, then it seems logical that there would be evolved mechanisms and responses to relationship termination, as over 85 percent of individuals will experience at least one in their lifetime," Morris stated.

He further said, "They can learn that they are not alone, that virtually everyone goes through this, and that it's okay to seek help if needed and that they will get through it."
