Alzheimer's is a serious and complicated disease. It is a progressive neurological disorder which is much more then memory loss and cognitive decline.

To identify this disease early, researchers have come up with a faster and affordable blood test method.

According to Science Daily, the new test detects the presence of a protein in the blood produced by a specific variation of the apolipoprotein gene (ApoE4), which is associated with increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. As per the finding, chances of Alzheimer disease increases three fold when the ApoE4 gene is inherited from one of the parents, and is increased 8–12 times when inherited from both parents.

The findings of the new test method were presented at the 68th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo in Philadelphia.

The results showed that the new biochip test, which allows multiple tests to be run on one blood sample, was as accurate as existing molecular tests that analyze DNA. While the biochip blood test gave accurate results in just three hours, which let doctors to find out quickly the risk of an individual developing Alzeihmer's disease.

Researchers in order to verify the accuracy of biochip test, examined 384 samples and compared the results to those from a standard molecular diagnostic test.
