LIVE UPDATES for International Yoga Day 2018 Celebrations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 50,000 attendees at fourth International Yoga Day in Dehradun today. The day came into inception after United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared a day of Yoga. PM Modi had suggested 21st June to be celebrated as International Day of Yoga while addressing UN in 2014. In 2017, PM Modi participated in the event and practised Yoga along with 51,000 participants in Lucknow. The day was celebrated with unparalleled zeal around the world including New York, China, Ireland and Athens.
This year, the entire nation rolled out Yoga mats to celebrate International Yoga Day 2018. PM Modi performed Yoga with 55,000 enthusiasts in Dehradun at an event organised by Forest Research Institute. In Delhi, eight events took place in different parts of the city including Raj Ghat and Lodhi Garden.
Ahead of the Yoga day, the prime minister posted a video on his Twitter handle giving a message that yoga is a “passport” to health assurance and not just a set of exercises that keep the body fit.
“Yoga is the journey from ‘me’ to ‘we’. It promises balance, calm, helps boost concentration and gives immense strength. As we approach the #4thYogaDay, I urge people around the world to make Yoga a part of their lives (sic),” Modi had tweeted.
