International United Peace Conference was held on February 9 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra International Youth Centre in Delhi. As many as 100 participants including school principals, students and members of women and youth participation were present at the event.

The conference urged government and the civil society in India to implement peace education and establish legal framework for peacebuilding, case presentations on HWPL Peace Academy provided with peace education materials and the plan of peace activities of civil society were introduced.
“When I perceived that such education would surely bring peace and harmony in my own country India. Imparting peace education to children would surely root out discrimination amongst religions and once again we would be like the flowers of the same garland,” said Ms. Jagjeet Kaur, teacher of Samsara the World Academy.
“The youth of today in India have witnessed many sacrifices caused by religious disputes and the conflict between India and Pakistan since they were born. It is our duty and responsibility to protect our country as a youth who was born in India during this era. So, the DPCW of HWPL in becoming an enforceable law is necessary to be introduced in India,” said Abeniel Anal, a member of IPYG.
From December 2015, as many as 49 schools of India have signed the MOUs with HWPL to encourage the culture of peace through peace education. As well as the peace education, International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) affiliated with HWPL have carried out various campaigns to develop the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) into a legally binding document as an international law for peace.
The DPCW was drafted by HWPL with 10 articles and 38 clauses addressing practical approaches to peace building including ethnic/religious freedom, respect on the international law and spreading a culture of peace.
HWPL, the host organisation has assisted with legal professions, religious leaders, youth, women, civic organisations and media to support comprehensive resolutions for peace and promote awareness of peacebuilding activities to the people of the world.
