Are you into the habit of munching something untimely? Then it's a high time you should rethink about your style. Eating at wee hours, specially late night may wreak havoc on your health particularly skin and hair. If you easily get sunburned then this may be due to your mistimed eating habit, a recent research has found. The study indicates that people who eat late at night may be more vulnerable to sunburn and longer-term effects such as skin ageing and skin cancer. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in its report conducted on mice found this surprising fact.
Mice who were fed untimely were more prone to skin damage when exposed to sun while those who were fed in evening-their usual time were less effected. The study published in Cell Reports claim that midnight snacking and eating at odd hours disrupt the functioning of enzymes which protects body against harmful ultraviolet radiations from the sun. "It is likely that if you have a normal eating schedule, then you will be better protected from UV during the daytime. If you have an abnormal eating schedule, that could cause a harmful shift in your skin clock, like it did in the mouse," said Joseph S. Takahashi, Chairman of Neuroscience at University of Texas.
However, if hunger pangs strike you now and then, you should resort to healthy alternatives like nuts, fruits, etc. This will not only be good for your skin and hair but will also boost your metabolism. Extensive research is required for better understanding of the link between eating patterns and UV rays of the sun, experts suggested.
