Washington: Researchers have now developed a new machine which is capable of producing wine non-stop and testing different fermentation processes.
This magical machine is now a reality and is been created by the efforts of Daniel Attinger, a mechanical engineering professor from Iowa State University and the team of researchers at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, a Swiss research institute
According to the researchers, this machine is being made for wine experts and winemakers, who will use it to identify the best yeast and the right fermentation temperature. And obviously, not been developed with the idea of endlessly refilling empty bottles of wine.
As per reports, this micro-brewery machine has a main channel through which grape juice can be put inside. The yeast is placed in adjacent compartments and feeds into the main channel through a very thin membrane with holes .
When the grape juice reaches the yeasts, they absorb the sugar and give off alcohol and CO2 through the membrane. This process takes place very quickly, since the sugar and yeast are confined in such a small space.
The head of EPFL’s Microsystems Laboratory,Philippe Renaud, said, all this process to make wine using this machine takes only an hour while on the other hand if made in a traditional manner, the process takes weeks to complete. And also while the machine can theoretically be used to make wine at home, the results are not as good as normal wine.
