Call him a warrior, a spiritual master, a philosopher or a poet, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the master of all trades. The tenth Guru, he was just 9 when he was installed as the leader of the Sikhs and he took up the responsibility like a true leader and guided his men through the rocky path with ease. Guru Gobind Singh was not just a man entitled with great books like ‘Tav-Prasad Savaiye’, ‘Jaap Sahib’, ‘Chaupai’, ‘Chandi Di Var’, ‘Akal Ustat’, ‘Zafarnamah’ and ‘Bachittar Natak’ but he is also credited with the introduction of 5 Ks which Sikhs wear all the time as their five articles of faith - Kesh (uncut hair), Kara (a steel bracelet), Kanga (a wooden comb), Kaccha - also spelt, Kachh, Kachera (cotton underwear) and Kirpan (steel sword).
Gutru Gobind Singh Jayanti falls in December or January every year and the devotees commence the day with religious prayers and offerings. Guru Govind Singh Ji’s spiritual reading and his tales of bravery are read and announced to the people in all the gurudwaras.
