Almost one year before the Karnataka Assembly elections, the hijab row was triggered by the ruling establishment (BJP government) banning the hijab in the state's education institutes. Now, since the government is changed in Karnataka and Congress came to power, several sections are demanding the removal of the ban.

What's Congress government said

Karnataka Minister Dr G Parameshwara, while answering the question on Amnesty India demanding hijab ban in Karnataka be rolled back, he said the government will see it in the future.

"We will see in future what best we can do. Right now, we have to fulfil the five guarantees we made to the people of Karnataka," Parameshwara said on Wednesday.

What is hijab row
On February 5, 2022, the Karnataka government issued an order stating that uniforms must be worn compulsorily in the education institutes and no exception can be made for the wearing of the hijab. The move created a huge outrage among Muslim communities.

Later, the matter reached Karnataka High Court. An order was passed by the Full Bench of the Karnataka High Court on March 15, which dismissed the pleas challenging the Government order dated February 5. The matter is now in the Supreme Court. However, now the regime is changed in the state. Congress came to power. Subsequently, the demand to scrap the ban is growing in Karnataka.
