The Karnataka Police arrested JD(S) MLC and the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna, Suraj Revanna, after an Arkalgud-based man who claims to be a JD(S) party worker accused the Hassan MLC of sexually assaulting him a few days ago.
According to the information available, post the complainant, identified as Chethan K. S. (27) filed an official complaint with the police, Suraj Revanna was questioned at CEN police station, before initially getting detained, under different sections of the IPC, including 'unnatural offences'. Now, in a latest update, the case has been transferred for further investigation with immediate effect.
About the charges
In a statement given to the Holenarsipur rural police station in Hassan district on Saturday, the JD(S) worker accused Suraj Revanna that he sexually abused him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada in Holenarasipura Taluk on June 16 evening. And based on the same, the Holenarasipura Rural Police registered the sexual assault case against Revanna under IPC Sections 377 (carnal intercourse against the order of nature), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace), and 34 (common intention).
However, it is pertinent to note that the charges demand intense scrutiny, as it comes after the complaint already being filed against the Chethan K S and his family members by the aide of Karnataka MLC Suraj Revanna, Shivkumar, alleging that they are attempting to extort money from the politician on the pretext of filing a false sexual assault case.
Suraj accuses a party worker of threatening him with a fake sexual abuse case
Significantly, Saturday's charges by the party worker come after Suraj Revanna filed a complaint, accusing him (party leader) of threatening to lodge a false sexual assault case against him to extort money.
The complaint was lodged by Shivakumar, a close aide of Suraj, on Friday against Chethan K. S. and his brother-in-law.
What is in the FIR?
According to the complaint lodged by Shivakumar, Chethan became his friend and subsequently started working for 'Suraj Revanna Brigade'.
Recently, Chethan asked for money to run his family, but after Shivakumar refused to give him money, he threatened to lodge a police complaint against Suraj Revanna, claiming that he sexually assaulted him, the complainant alleged.
As per Shivakumar's complaint, Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore and later reduced the demand to Rs 2 crore. Accordingly, the police have registered a case under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (involvement of others in the conspiracy) against Chethan and his brother-in-law.
