Sexual assault case: Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) MLC Suraj Revanna on Sunday was sent to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with an investigation into an alleged sexual assault. Suraj is the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexually abusing several women.
The Hassan police produced the JDS legislator before the Magistrate in Bengaluru on Sunday evening after he was arrested earlier in the day.
The case was transferred to the CID, Karnataka police, earlier in the day but the CID is yet to take over the case.
Suraj Revanna arrested
Earlier in the day, Suraj Revanna was arrested in Hassan on charges of "unnatural offences" against him. He was booked on Saturday for allegedly sexually abusing a male party worker a few days ago, and has been booked under various sections of the IPC, including "unnatural offences".
The investigation into the case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Following this, Suraj was shifted to Bengaluru from Hassan, and produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) judge, at his residence here, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
What is in FIR?
The complaint was lodged by Shivakumar, a close aide of Suraj, on Friday against Chethan K S and his brother-in-law. According to the complaint lodged by Shivakumar, Chethan became his friend and subsequently started working for 'Suraj Revanna Brigade'.
Recently, Chethan asked for money to run his family, but after Shivakumar refused to give him money, he threatened to lodge a police complaint against Suraj Revanna, claiming that he sexually assaulted him, the complainant alleged.
As per Shivakumar's complaint, Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore and later reduced the demand to Rs 2 crore. Accordingly, the police have registered a case under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (involvement of others in the conspiracy) against Chethan and his brother-in-law.
