Prajwal Revanna remanded to judicial custody till June 24

In a significant development, former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, embroiled in multiple cases of rape and sexual abuse, has been remanded to judicial custody until June 24 by a special court here on Tuesday.

Legal proceedings and custody

Prajwal Revanna, facing charges related to sexual harassment and rape, was initially remanded to the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) until June 18 by the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on June 12.

Background and arrest

The 33-year-old politician, who recently lost his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency, was arrested by SIT officials upon his return from Germany on May 31. He had departed for Germany on April 27, a day after the polling in Hassan.

International attention and allegations

Earlier, a 'Blue Corner Notice' was issued by Interpol, prompted by a request from the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation, seeking information on Revanna's whereabouts. His arrest relates to cases filed in Holenarasipura, Hassan district, on April 28, including allegations of sexually harassing a former maid and charges of rape.

Public and political fallout

The cases gained prominence when explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna surfaced in Hassan just before the Lok Sabha polls on April 26, leading to his suspension from the JD(S).

Ongoing investigations

As investigations continue, the judiciary and law enforcement agencies are expected to pursue the case diligently to ascertain the facts and uphold justice in light of the serious allegations against the former MP.
