Mandya Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Who are the key candidates?

Mandya has a long political history and is a critical battleground in Karnataka for all parties. This year, veteran politician and former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy has entered the fray as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have entered a seat-sharing arrangement with the Janata Dal (Secular). Interestingly, the BJP has never been able to win this seat dominated by the Vokkaliga community. Kumaraswamy was key to the JDS's hopes after a poor show in the Assembly elections.

The former CM faced Congress candidate Venkataramane Gowda, a relative newcomer as compared to Kumaraswamy. He is popularly known as 'Star Chandu' and is among the richest candidates in Karnataka's Lok Sabha elections. Gowda's wife is richer than him, with movable and immovable properties worth over Rs 300 crore. He is a contractor by profession and is the brother of KH Puttaswamy Gowda, a Congress MLA.
