At least two people were killed and 36 others have fallen sick after consuming contaminated water in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka on Wednesday, said sources. Five of the ill are said to be in serious condition, according to the sources, as reported by news agency IANS. Manjula, aged 23 and Raghu, aged 27, both of whom lived in Kavadigarahatti on the outskirts of Chitradurga, were identified as the deceased.
While Manjula died in the hospital, Raghu, who had gone to Bengaluru subsequent to consuming the water, developed extreme side effects and died later, the sources expressed. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and authorities have instructed residents not to drink the city municipality-provided water.
A portion of the unwell individuals are as of now admitted in the district hospital after extreme severe vomiting and diarrhoea. The serious patients have been moved to hospitals in the adjoining Davanagere city. To deal with any situation, officials from the health department are stationed at Kavadigarahatti.
Water and excreta tests of the unwell individuals have been shipped off the lab for testing to discover the specific reason for contamination. On Tuesday, SP Parushurama and deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu paid a visit to the district hospital. They also went to Kavadigaratti and looked at the RO plant and overhead tank. The locals criticised them for their tardiness during their visit.
