In an ironic incident, a Karnataka BJP MP made headlines after he scolded a female vendor publicly for not wearing a bindi on the occasion of International Women's Day. The incident took place at a fair and exhibition event that had been especially organised for female traders in Kolar district.
BJP MP S Muniswami, who was inaugurating the event, stopped at a stall for selling clothes and scolded a vendor for not wearing a bindi. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.
The MP said in the video, "Your husband is still alive, isn't he? Then why haven't you put a bindi, don't you have common sense? Someone give her a bindi."
The woman was surprised by his behavior among so many people but could not say anything and continued to silently listen to the MP.
The video of the incident has elicited sharp reactions from people across social media. Congress too condemned the act and said such incidents 'reflect the culture' of the BJP.
Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram also responded to the video, writing, “The @BJP4India will turn India into a “Hindutva Iran”. The Ayatollahs of the BJP will have their version of the “Moral Police” patrolling the streets.”
