Hassan Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: In a significant development, Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has been defeated by Congress candidate Shreyas M Patel with a margin of over 42,649 votes. Patel polled 6,72,988 (49.67 per cent) while Revanna could garner 6,30,339 (46.52 per cent). Hassan is one of the key constituencies among the 28 seats of Karnataka that went for polls in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The high-profile seat gained particular attention after Revanna's controversial involvement in the obscene video case, where he was accused of sexual abuse. Hassan went for polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

It is a GENERAL category seat and comprises eight Assembly segments - Kadur, Shravanabelagola, Arsikere, Belur, Hassan, Holenarasipur, Arkalgud and Sakleshpur. This seat was won by former PM HD Deve Gowda five times on Janata Dal and JDS tickets. This year's contest was largely between the JD(S) and Congress, between two strong families to have engaged in a long-standing political fight.

Hassan Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Key candidates

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, has been fielded again by the JD(S), which has entered into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, soon after the polling took place in Hassan, Revanna was accused of sexual abuse by several women and several obscene videos of him allegedly abusing women were circulated. He left for Germany on April 27, a day after the polls and Interpol issued a 'Blue Corner Notice' against him. The case raised a political storm in the state as Revanna was suspended from his party as the ruling Congress and the BJP-JDS duo engaged in a blame game.

Revanna arrived in India on May 31, a month after leaving the country, and was remanded to six days in the custody of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). He is likely to face a tough contest by Congress leader Shreyas M Patel, who is the grandson of former Minister G Puttaswamy Gowda and a relative of Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar. Shreyas gave a tough contest to Prajwal's father HD Revanna in the 2023 Assembly elections. The two families have been at the centre of a decades-long political feud, since Puttaswamy Gowda defeated Deve Gowda in the 1989 Assembly elections and the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.
