Bengaluru rains: In a tragic incident, a woman software engineer died after a vehicle carrying six members of the same family stuck in the subway as Karnataka's capital Bengaluru received heavy rains accompanied by a storm on Sunday. Although, the fire and emergency services personnel saved five members of the family and the driver from the car which was trapped under neck-deep water at the KR Circle underpass, the techie lost her life.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the hospital where the victims were taken.
According to sources, a family of six from Hyderabad was travelling in a car amid heavy downpours and hailstorms on Sunday afternoon. Sources said that the subway was closed by putting a barricade, but the cab driver tried to take his car through the underpass.
Without realising the intensity of the water stagnating at the underpass, the car driver tried to zoom past but in the middle, the car almost submerged. Soon people sitting inside the vehicle came out to save themselves.
Due to the downpour, the water level started increasing. As the family began crying for help, people nearby rushed to their rescue. They threw sarees and ropes to help them remain afloat. Those entrapped tried to climb up but failed. While two of them were dragged out by the swimmers of the emergency services personnel, others were brought out using a ladder.
