Bangalore South Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tejasvi Surya secured a massive win over Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy, defeating her by over 2,77,083 lakh votes. Surya won 7,50,830 (60.1 per cent), while Reddy managed 4,73,747 votes (37.92 per cent). BSP's Arun Prasad came a distant third in the race.
The Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat is one of the 28 constituencies that saw a high-profile face-off between the and the Congress this year. Bangalore South is a GENERAL category seat that comprises eight Assembly segments including Govindraj Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Chickpet, Basavanagudi, Padmanabha Nagar, BTM Layout, Jayanagar and Bommanahalli. It has emerged as a BJP stronghold since 1991 and senior party leader Ananth Kumar won it for six consecutive times from 1996 to 2014.

The seat has been a BJP bastion since 1996, while the Congress has managed to win the seat only twice after independence - in 1951 and 1989. Tejasvi Surya, the fiery-tongued young leader who won the previous elections, has been brought back into the fray by the BJP. Surya is the president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and is known for his controversial statements. He has made efforts to underline the achievements made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure as PM.
On the other hand, the Congress has fielded Sowmya Reddy, the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress of Karnataka and the daughter of Karnataka's Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. She is a former MLA from Jayanagar and lost the 2023 Assembly by a margin of just 16 votes.

Bangalore South Lok Sabha Election 2024: What happened in 2019 and 2014?
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP's Tejasvi Surya won the seat for the first time with a margin of 3,31,192 votes. He was polled 7,39,229 votes with a vote share of 62.14 per cent. He defeated Congress candidate BK Hariprasad who got 4,08,037 votes (34.30 per cent). The total number of valid votes polled was 11,88,491.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP stalwart Ananth Kumar won the seat for the sixth time in a row. He was polled 6,33,816 votes with a vote share of 56.88 per cent. Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani got 4,05,241 votes (36.37 per cent) and was the runner-up. Kumar defeated Nilekani by a margin of 2,28,575 votes.
