In a tragic event in Jharkhand's Latehar district, a 45-year-old woman named Shanti Kujjur died while being transported to a hospital on a charpoy by her relatives.

About the incident

Shanti Kujjur, a resident of Baseria village in Mahuatand block, had been suffering from fever and body aches for several days. On Monday morning, she experienced severe chest pain. Due to the poor road conditions, ambulances could not reach her village. As a result, her husband, Remish Minz, and other relatives were forced to carry her on a charpoy for approximately four kilometers to the nearest hospital. But, upon arrival at Mahuatand Hospital, Dr. Amit Khalko, the hospital in-charge, declared Shanti dead, attributing her death to a heart attack.

Meanwhile, local Block Development Officer (BDO) Amren Dang expressed deep sadness over the incident and vowed to investigate further. He assured that efforts would be made to address the villagers' basic needs, including the construction of a proper road.

Administration neglected villagers need

Amid the tragic incident, villagers criticized the administration for neglecting their needs. Dharmendra Singh, a former member of the Durup Panchayat committee, speaking of the incident said, the administration neglected the villagers' repeated requests for a proper road. He contended that Shanti's life might have been saved if there had been a functional road connecting their village to the main thoroughfare.

Anoter villager recounted, "We have to carry patients on charpoys because we do not have an accessible road to reach the main road. Ambulances do not come because of the road condition."

Moreover, in response to the incident, the BDO instructed medical teams, village heads, and panchayat officials to take immediate action to improve road access and address other essential infrastructure needs in the area.
