Former Jharkhand chief minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champai Soren, who arrived in Delhi on Sunday, evaded two important questions asked by the media persons. To summarise his visit to Delhi, he said he has come to the city for personal work and will meet his daughter.
To one question on joining the BJP, he evaded the question and said he is there where is he at the moment.
To another question where he is unhappy with the JMM, he evaded to answer the question directly and said he has come to Delhi for personal work and he has nothing to say about JMM at the moment.
Notably, Champai Soren’s visit to the national capital has sparked a flurry of political activity, with rumours making the rounds about his potential defection ahead of the Jharkhand assembly elections that will take place this year.
There were reports that the former Jharkhand chief minister met with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata yesterday. However, he clarified that he did not meet anyone.
Despite the growing speculation about him joining the BJP, Champai Soren publicly dismissed the remours. Saying, "I don't know anything about such speculations and reports... I am where I am," he said.
Some media reports had on Friday claimed that Soren could join the saffron party ahead of the Jharkhand assembly elections.
Soren also said that his meeting with former JMM legislator Lobin Hembrom, who is reportedly in touch with BJP leaders, was a routine affair. "He (Hembrom) met me, but we had routine discussions," he said.
