The Jharkhand Police reported on Saturday, August 3, that an unidentified assailant shot dead a sub-inspector posted in the Special Branch in Ranchi. The victim has been identified as Anupam Kachhap, a 2018 batch sub-inspector. His body was found on Boreya Road, near the ring road in the Kanke police station area, with a significant bullet wound.
Providing details of the incident, SP Ranchi, Chandan Kumar Sinha, stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter and ensure the culprit is apprehended soon.
"Last night, Sub-Inspector Anupam Kachhap, who was posted in the Special Branch Headquarters, was shot dead by an unknown assailant. We have taken a statement from his colleague and batchmate, Pawan Kumar. They had gone to a local hotel for dinner. After dinner, others returned towards Kanke, but Sub-Inspector Kachhap went in the other direction," said SP Sinha.
"Why he went in that direction and how the events unfolded are being investigated by the SIT. It appears he was shot at point-blank range. The SIT is led by Rural SP Sumit Agarwal, with all key officers assigned to the investigation," he added.
Meanwhile, the police have sent the deceased inspector's body to RIMS for a post-mortem examination.
