A goods train derailed near Chandil station in Jharkhand's Saraikela affecting the movement of trains on Monday. The derailment caused significant damage to the railway tracks, though no casualties have been reported. The incident occurred near Chandil station at around 12 pm, with a loud noise signalling the derailment. Due to the damaged tracks, all train movements to and from Tatanagar station were suspended. Both the Hatia Express and Godda Express were also cancelled following the derailment.

Help desk at Tatanagar station

With train operations suspended, hundreds of passengers at Tatanagar station were waiting for further updates. In response, the Chakradharpur Railway Division has set up a help desk at Tatanagar station to assist stranded passengers. Meanwhile, railway officials have reached the site of the accident and are working to remove the derailed wagons.

Similar incident in Bokaro

Earlier on September 26, two wagons of a goods train had derailed near Tupkadih station in Jharkhand's Bokaro. This had led to the cancellation of as many as fifteen trains, officials said. The goods train was carrying a steel consignment from Bokaro Steel Plant and overturned on the main line between Tupkadih and Bokaro stations. The incident had occurred near the northern cabin yard of Tupkadih station and affected train movement on the Bokaro-Gomo section.

Railways develops special metal fencing

It should be mentioned here that the Indian Railways has developed a new metal fencing to tackle the problem of cattle and two-wheelers crossing over to train tracks. The gaps from the ground level and between the two beams have been designed in such a way in the new W-Beam metal fence that cattle or two-wheelers cannot cross it and move over to the tracks, officials said. While raising the speed of trains is a priority for the Indian Railways, the operation of trains beyond 110 kmph necessitates provision of safety fencing all along the track to avoid any infringement to moving trains, especially by animals and two wheelers.
