18 BJP MLAs suspended from Jharkhand assembly

Meanwhile, in another major update from Jharkhand, 18 BJP MLAs were suspended from the assembly until 2 PM on August 2 after causing a ruckus in the House on Thursday.

According to available information, the BJP legislators gathered in the well of the assembly before the session started, and raised slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. They also tore few  documents and continue their protest against the eviction of opposition MLAs by marshals the previous day. However, as the situation escalated, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto suspended the 18 BJP legislators. When they refused to leave the House, marshals were called in to remove them.

Moreover, the BJP legislators criticized the Speaker outside the assembly, claiming that democracy was "murdered" by the Speaker at the behest of the JMM-led government. Leader of the Opposition Amar Bauri asserted that the state government had become dictatorial. "We requested the government to answer questions on issues related to the people. What happened is an attempt to suppress the voice of opposition MLAs," Bauri said.
