In a distressing incident, at least 65 students from a government middle school in Tongra, Dumka district of Jharkhand, fell ill after consuming their mid-day meal. The students began vomiting shortly after eating, prompting immediate medical attention.
According to officials, a dead chameleon was allegedly found in the meal. The affected students were promptly referred to the Masalia Community Health Centre, where their condition is reported to be stable.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Azfar Husnain confirmed the situation, stating, "The students reported finding a dead chameleon in their meal. They are receiving medical care and their condition is stable."
The Tongra police station in-charge, Gurucharan Manjhi, stated that an investigation into the incident is underway. Authorities are working to determine how the contamination occurred and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene standards in the school meal program, prompting calls for a thorough review and immediate corrective action.
