Former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Wednesday. He said his struggle will continue on the issues of tribals, indigenous people, Dalits, backward people and common people of Jharkhand. The Former Jharkhand Chief Minister stated that he was forced to take such a step as he was aggrieved by the party's present style of functioning and policies.
Soren also vowed to continue his fight for the rights and welfare of tribals, Dalits, and other marginalised communities of the state. Emphasising his commitment to their cause, Soren reiterated that his efforts to uplift these groups would remain steadfast. "Today I resigned from the primary membership and all posts of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. My struggle will continue on the issues of tribals, Dalits, backward and common people of Jharkhand will continue," Soren wrote on X.
Champai Soren writes to party chief
In a letter to party chief Shibu Soren, the senior tribal leader said he was forced to quit after being "aggrieved by the present style of functioning and policies" of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. "It is with great sorrow that I must say the party we envisioned under your leadership, for which we toiled through jungles, mountains, and villages, has now lost its way. For me, JMM has been like a family, and I never imagined that I would have to leave it. However, due to the recent developments, I am forced to make this difficult decision with immense pain," Soren wrote in his letter.
Experienced 'bitter humiliation' as CM: Champai
The veteran politician had earlier said he experienced "bitter humiliation" as Chief Minister, which compelled him to seek an alternative path. He alleged that all his government programmes in the first week of July were abruptly cancelled by the party leadership without his knowledge. On Tuesday, Champai Soren had asserted that he is joining the BJP to save tribal identity and existence, which is at stake in the state’s Santhal Pargana region due to “rampant” infiltration from Bangladesh. The senior JMM leader said only the saffron party seems serious over the issue of tribals, while others are indulging in vote bank politics.
Soren to join BJP on August 30
It should be noted here that Champai Soren is set to join the BJP on August 30. The 67-year-old leader said he is joining the BJP to save tribal identity and existence, which is at stake in the state’s Santhal Pargana region due to “rampant” infiltration from Bangladesh. Champai Soren earned the nickname 'Jharkhand's Tiger' for his contribution to the fight to create a separate state in the 1990s. Jharkhand was carved out of the southern part of Bihar in 2000.
