Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PDP chief and candidate from Anantnag–Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday (May 25) alleged that her party workers and polling agents are being locked up in police stations “without any reasons”, while also claiming that complaints regarding the efforts to “tamper the EVMs” are being received. This comes as voting began on the Anantnag–Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir in the sixth phase of polling.
Voting on 58 seats began at 7 am today in across six states and two union territories and will continue till 6 pm.
What did Mehbooba say?
Mufti, who is a candidate from Anantnag–Rajouri seat and is up against Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC)’s Mian Altaf Ahmad, alleged that the polling agents of her party are being locked up in police stations.
“PDP workers are being locked up in police stations without any reason. DG, LG, all officials from top to bottom are involved in this. They have locked up PDP polling agents in police stations. You had said that there will be free and fair elections but you are doing all this...Complaints are being received from places that efforts are being made to tamper the machines (EVMs),” she alleged.
She along with party leaders and workers also sat on a protest.
Outgoing calls suspended: Mehbooba Mufti
Mehbooba further claimed that outgoing calls on her mobile number have been suspended without any explanation.
"I am not able to make any calls since morning. There is no explanation for this sudden suspension of services on the day of polling in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency," Mehbooba claimed.
