Baramulla: Three terrorist associates affiliated with the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit have been arrested along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, said Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday.
During a checking drive at Kalgai near Jhula Foot Bridge on November 25, a joint team of Baramulla Police, 13 SIKHLI and 185 BN BSF intercepted two suspected persons coming from Kamalkote towards NHW carrying bags. According to officials, they were identified as Zameer Ahmad Khanday and Mohammad Naseem Khanday, both residents of Madiyan Kamalkote.
Chinese grenades and cash recovered
During the search, security personnel recovered three Chinese grenades and cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh from them. A case under relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Uri.
In the course of sustained interrogation, both suspects revealed that they had received the illegally obtained grenades and money from Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti, a resident of Madiyan Kamalkote. Bhatti allegedly provided these materials for the purpose of carrying out potential terrorist activities. Subsequently, Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti was taken in for questioning. Accordingly, Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti was picked up for questioning.
Linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF
During the inquiry, he admitted to supplying the illegally acquired grenades and money to the individuals for the execution of terrorist acts. He also disclosed that he had stored one hand grenade and a sum of Rs 2.17 lakh at a location near his residence. Following his revelation, another Chinese hand grenade and the mentioned amount of cash were recovered. Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti was arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.
They were working as terrorist associates and were linked with the proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF, the police said. TRF or The Resistance Front is a shadow outfit of the LeT.
