Narco smuggling module busted in Baramulla; drugs worth Rs 50 crore seized

A narco module was busted in the Uri district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of contraband worth ₹50 crore. During the investigation, it was revealed that the detained individuals were part of a larger narco-terror network operating in the region.

In a significant operation, a narco module was dismantled in the Uri town of Baramulla district, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of contraband worth ₹50 crore. According to the information, the investigation, initiated on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, by the Uri Police based on specific information, led to the detention of Mehmood Ahmad Najar and Sajad Ahmad Malik on suspicion of narcotics smuggling.

During interrogation, the detainees provided vital information about a larger narco-terror network operating in the region, including details about the concealment of contraband substances. Further, acting on the information provided by the detainees, a police team accompanied by a Magistrate and supported by the Army conducted a search operation in Churanda and recovered the contraband substance and cash. 

Subsequently, the detainees also revealed information about their third associate linked with the module, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Hajam. Following his detention, Fayaz too confessed to smuggling contraband from Pakistan and disclosed the whereabouts of hidden substances. Additionally, cash was seized from Fayaz's residence.

Moreover, while a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered and investigation has been taken up, the official said the total recovered contraband weighed 7.800 kilograms, with an estimated value of ₹50 crore. Additionally the cash seized amounted to ₹12,63,500.
