Jammu and Kashmir news: At least four jawans were killed and three got injured when terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district today (December 21).
The vehicles came under attack in the Savni area on the Thanamandi-Surankote road. It was carrying jawans from Bafliaz area, where a cordon and search operation against terrorists has been underway since Wednesday (December 20).
The Army officials said troops also immediately retaliated after being attacked by terrorists.
"The troops were going to reinforce a joint operation against terrorists going on in the area since last evening. The operations are taking place in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area," they added.
Security forces on spot:
Meanwhile, an Army spokesperson said contact has been established with the terrorists and an exchange of fire was underway in the area. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot.
"A joint operation was launched in the general area Dera Ki Gali (DKG) last night, contact was established today evening and an encounter is still in progress. Further details being ascertained," said PRO Defence Jammu.
The spot where the incident occurred is a dense forest area and deployment of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police were there. Ghatak QRT and special forces have been called up for operations and firing is still underway by the terrorists.
A joint operation was launched yesterday in the general area of Surankote and Bafliaz of Poonch and contact with terrorists has been established today.
