There is an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Larrow-Parigam area of Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday. One terrorist has been killed during the operation. The encounter started on Sunday night, August 20, after security forces launched a search operation in the area following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists there.
The security forces have surrounded the area and the exchange of fire is still ongoing. There is no information yet on the number of terrorists or security personnel involved in the encounter.
"Encounter has started in Larrow- Parigam area of Pulwama. Police & Security Forces are on the job. Details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police shared the information on X (formally Twitter).
This is the second encounter in Pulwama district in the last two weeks. On August 5, a terrorist was killed in an encounter in the Rajouri district.
The Pulwama district is one of the most volatile districts in Jammu and Kashmir. In February 2019, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwama, killing 40 personnel.
The attack was the deadliest in Kashmir since the start of the armed insurgency in 1989. It triggered a major escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan.
The security forces are determined to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing encounter in Pulwama is a step in that direction.
