Baramulla encounter: Two terrorists were killed today (June 19) in an encounter with the security forces in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The identity of the terrorists is still to be ascertained.
"All exit routes for the holed-up terrorists have been sealed,” officials said earlier.
In the encounter, two terrorists have been killed so far. "The operation is still going on,” officials said.
Two security officers sustained injuries
According to reports, two security personnel sustained injuries in an encounter that broke out in Baramulla on Wednesday. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Watergam area today following information about the presence of terrorists there.
The officials said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. A senior police official said two bodies have been seen at the scene of the gunbattle but have not been retrieved so far.
He added that two security personnel- a cop and an army jawan- were injured in the exchange of firing with the terrorists.
Officials earlier said that the security forces had started a cordon and search operation in the Hadipora village. A joint team of police and security forces had input about the presence of terrorists in that area following which the search was launched.
“As the security forces closed on the hiding terrorists, they fired at the security forces triggering an encounter which is now going on. All exit routes for the holed-up terrorists have been sealed,” officials added.
There have been a series of encounters between terrorists and security forces across Kashmir in the recent past in which many terrorists have been eliminated.
