Village defence guards on Sunday (November 12) opened fire over observing suspicious movement in a village in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said. No one was injured in the firing that took place early in the morning at around 4 am in upper Dhangri. Notably, terrorists had killed seven people in the same village in an attack earlier this year, they added.
The guards fired nearly two dozen rounds after noticing some suspicious movement outside a house in the village, they said.
Search operation
The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army have launched a cordon and search operation in the village and nearby areas as a precautionary measure, the officials said.
The development comes on the day when the people of the country are celebrating Diwali with joy and fervour today.
