A terrorist was killed by security forces during an encounter on Tuesday evening at a village in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the local police, the encounter started after two terrorists infiltrated and opened fire at seda sohal village near Koota Mode in the Hiranagar sector. According to the information, they approached a house and requested water from the occupants, a father and son. Suddenly, the terrorists attempted to choke the son, prompting both the father and son to flee the scene.
One terrorist has been killed in the exchange of fire while two cornered and a search operation is underway, the officials said. The terrorists began chasing the duo, opening fire as they followed them. Meanwhile, the Special Operations Group (SoG) of Jammu and Kashmir sprang into action. In the ensuing confrontation, a terrorist was trapped in a drain and later killed. Hiranagar sector, which is close to the International Border, was promptly closed following the incident.
Zonal Police Media Centre confirms terrorist's death
The Zonal Police Media Centre Jammu confirmed on social media the death of one terrorist during the ongoing operation, noting that further details are awaited. “Update: One terrorist killed, Operation going in village Saida Sukhal near koota mode PS Hira Nagar. Details awaited,” it wrote on X.
Suspicious activity sparks security response
The officials said that police and other security forces were rushed to the village following suspicious movement of three persons around 7.45 pm. A couple of gunshots were heard, believed to be fired by the suspected terrorists, after some people raised an alarm, they added. Notably, Hiranagar sector is closed to the International Border.
Three held for providing support to terrorists
Earlier in the day, three over ground workers of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district in connection with the recovery of two improvised explosive devices. The explosive devices, weighing about six kgs, were recovered on Sunday and were destroyed a day later, a police official said. During further investigation following the killing of LeT commander Reyaz Dar and his associate Rayees Dar on June 3, police recovered the explosives from the over ground workers (OGW) network of the slain terrorists, the official said.
