In a worrisome incident along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, three Indian Army personnel sustained injuries due to a landmine explosion. The incident occurred during a patrol in the Phagwari Gali area of the Mendhar sector. Preliminary information, as reported by officials, indicates that the soldiers were on patrol duty when they encountered the activated landmine. The sudden explosion left the Army personnel injured, prompting immediate action for their evacuation and medical treatment.

The injured soldiers were swiftly moved to a nearby medical facility to receive initial medical attention. However, due to the nature of their injuries, two of them were subsequently referred to a military hospital located in Rajouri, where they could receive specialized medical care.

According to PTI reports, officials explained that in forward areas near the Line of Control, an anti-infiltration obstacle system is in place, which includes the placement of landmines as a security measure. Nevertheless, the frequent occurrence of heavy rains can sometimes lead to the displacement of these landmines, potentially resulting in unforeseen accidents like the one witnessed in this incident.

The safety and well-being of Army personnel serving in challenging terrain along the LoC remain a priority for the Indian Army, and investigations are likely to be conducted to determine the exact circumstances that led to the activation of the landmine.

While landmines are used as defensive tools in the region to deter infiltration attempts, such accidents highlight the risks and challenges faced by soldiers and underline the importance of continued vigilance in maintaining safety and security along the Line of Control.
