At least two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter as security forces guarding the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday foiled an infiltration bid from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch region, officials said.
The troops in Degwar area saw the movement of some terrorists endeavoring to slip into this side under the cover of darkness in the early hours of the day and engaged them in an encounter, the authorities said.
The officials said one terrorist was gunned down however his body was at this point to be recovered from the scene. Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said a military party laid out contact with terrorists in Garhi battalion area around 2 am.
"Two people were noticed getting across LoC in the overall area Degwar Terva. In the resulting firefight, one terrorist was seen dropping while the second moved towards Pintu Nala," the official said. The entire region was cordoned off and a search operation is in progress, authorities said.
Second attempt in 24 hours
This is the second infiltration bid along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours. On Sunday, one terrorist was killed after the Indian Army thwarted a penetration bid along the LoC in Kupwara area, the police said.
As per a police spokesperson, a joint cordon and search activity was launched by the police and Army in the Dakhen-Amrohi area of Tangdhar area in Kupwara in view of data about conceivable penetration attempts.
"During the search operation, the movement of terrorists, trying to infiltrate our side, was observed. They were challenged by the joint party in which one terrorist was neutralised," he said. Exploiting the thick shrubs and rough territory, two to three other terrorists got away from back to the Pakistan side of the LoC, the official said.
