Jammu and Kashmir administration to allot govt land to landless domicile

The lease period specified will be 40 years which may be extendable for an additional 40 years, which is subject to adhering to all norms and formalities. However, if a person fails to build a house on the allotted land within two years, the lease will be cancelled.

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha-chaired administrative council on Thursday (August 24) approved the allotment of five marlas (125 square yards) of state land to the landless domiciles to the Union Territory, who are Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) or Awas plus beneficiaries.

According to the reports, the J-K administration also laid down guidelines for the allocation of land.

The land will be leased to those who are on the specified categories of the Rural Development Department's permanent waiting list for 2018-19.

The lease period specified will be 40 years which may be extendable for an additional 40 years, which is subject to adhering to all norms and formalities. However, if a person fails to build a house on the allotted land with two years, the lease will be cancelled, the reports said.

“The land will be leased for a token amount of Rs 100 per marla as a one-time premium and a nominal fee of Re 1 per marla per annum as ground rent,” the guidelines said.

The order in this regard was issued by the J-K Revenue Department on Thursday which complied with a decision taken on June 21, 2023, by the Administrative Council led by the LG.

According to the order issued by Revenue Secretary, Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioners will allot the lands in accordance with the specified guidelines.

“Sanction is hereby accorded to the allotment of 5 Marla of state land on a lease basis in favour of landless PMAY (G)/Awas plus beneficiaries, falling in any of six categories, out of Rural Development Department's Permanent Waiting List 2018-19,” the order read.

“Allotment will be made to the landless PMAY (G) beneficiaries, who are figuring in the Permanent Waiting List 2018-19, surveyed by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and are otherwise eligible for housing

Assistance under PMAY(G)/Awas plus. It will be granted on lease basis in terms of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Act of 1960 and the Rules made thereunder,” it added.
