An encounter erupted on Wednesday morning between terrorists and security forces in the Bajaad village of Gandoh area, Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, police officials reported. The clash began at around 9:50 am amid an intensified search and cordon operation by the police, Army, and CRPF, following twin terrorist attacks in the district on June 11 and 12.
Background of recent attacks
Six security personnel were injured in a terrorist attack at a joint check post in Chattargalla on June 11. The following day, a policeman was injured in a gunfight with terrorists at Kota top in Gandoh area.
Increased security measures
In response to the attacks, security forces heightened their anti-terrorist operations and announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs each for four Pakistani terrorists believed to be operating in the district.
Ongoing exchange of fire
The police, with assistance from security forces, launched an operation in the Sinoo panchayat but faced heavy fire from the hiding terrorists. The exchange of gunfire was still ongoing at the time of the latest reports.
