Jammu and Kashmir: The Border Security Force (BSF) has lodged a protest with Pakistan Rangers over the unprovoked cross-border firing along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir which injured two BSF personnel, officials said on Friday (October 20).
The BSF highlighted the issue at a commandant-level flag meeting held at a border outpost (BoP) along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector on Thursday evening.
This comes after two BSF personnel sustained injuries on Tuesday evening after Pakistan rangers opened an unprovoked firing on the border guards along the International border at the Vikram BoP in Arnia sector, according to the officials.
The BSF also raised the issue of smuggling of narcotics from across the border at the meeting and said that they have pictorial evidence of smugglers who have been killed by the force, the officials said.
They said that the Pakistan Rangers denied their involvement as usual.
Locals protest against firing incident
Protests for ceasefire violations against Pakistan were held after two BSF personnel were injured in a firing by Pakistan Rangers.
The Pakistan Rangers opened fire on BSF troops at the Vikram post in the Arnia sector around 8.15 am on Tuesday, following which they fired in retaliation, the BSF said in a statement.
Scores of villagers assembled at Arnia border belt on Wednesday and raised anti-Pakistan slogans and burnt an effigy of Pakistan.
"They have deceived us again by resorting to unprovoked firing, resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans. This cannot be tolerated," a villager told reporters during the protest.
This was the first ceasefire violation in the last two years, in which Pakistan Rangers "resorted to unprovoked firing" on border guards along the International Border (IB) here, the statement said.
