Being physically active improves heart health and keeps you away from many heart-related diseases. In such a situation, if you become a heart patient at an early age, then in such a situation, which exercises should not be done, is being told by Dr Pratik Chaudhary, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Asian Hospital.

Heart patients should avoid doing these exercises

  1. Heavy workout: Heart patients should definitely exercise but they should also keep in mind that they should not do too much heavy workout. Heart patients may have breathing problems along with difficulty in breathing. Heavy workout increases the heart rate, which also increases blood pressure. In such a situation, if it is not stopped at the right time, then the chances of heart attack may increase.
  2. Heavy lifting exercises: Heart patients should avoid exercises that require lifting very heavy weights. Especially those patients who have low ejection fraction or low pumping function of the heart.
  3. Breathing exercises: Exercises that require holding the breath for a long time: Some exercises require holding the breath for a long time. People suffering from heart disease should not do any such exercise. Avoid exercises that use your whole body as weight.
  4. Press-up or plank: Exercises like press-up or plank should also be avoided. If you have had a heart attack or your ejection fraction is low, then you should not do this exercise

Keep these things in mind while exercising:

While exercising, people often start at a fast pace, which is wrong. Especially, heart patients have to take special care of this. Exercise should be started slowly.

If you are not feeling well, you should avoid exercising on those days. When you are unwell or have a fever, you should not exercise on those days.

If a heart patient has undergone any kind of surgery, then he should only take a light walk for 20-30 minutes so that there is no strain on the heart.

A person suffering from heart disease should always exercise under the supervision of an expert.
