The country is battling the second wave of the Coronavirus. Millions of people have been infected by it, while thousands of people are dying every day. With this, millions of people are recovering and defeating the virus as well. The situation has left many people helpless looking for oxygen cylinders, vacant beds, ICU support, vaccine, mental health counselling, especially in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune being the worst-hit areas. On the other hand, another challenge of black fungus stands in front of us. To tackle the crucial situation and help people in panic, government has been laying out many guidelines for safety from Covid.

    COVID19: 45% of patients left hospital in worse physical state

    Millions of people have been infected and thousands have lost their lives due to Covid19. The second wave of deadly virus is quite precarious. According to a new study, as many as 45 per cent of patients hospitalised for Covid-19 experienced a significant functional decline after being discharged. Of survivors who experienced a functional decline, 80 per cent were referred for additional therapy after being discharged. Nearly 20 per cent of all patients lost so much ability that they were not able to live independently after their release, indicates the study.

    Delhi sees lowest tally of new Covid cases in two months

    Delhi on Wednesday reported 1,491 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest since March 25 when the national capital had reported a single-day tally of 1,515 cases, according to the health bulletin issued by the Delhi government. Also, this is the fourth straight day when Delhi reported a single-day tally of less than 2,000 cases.

    The national capital recorded a positivity rate of 1.93 per cent in the last 24 hours, remaining below the 5 per cent-mark for the fifth consecutive day.

    Delhi Covid-19 update

    Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain has informed that Covid-19 cases in the national capital continue to fall and the positivity rate has fallen below 2 per cent. On black fungus, he said that the city has reported 613 cases and that situation will improve as Covid cases are on the decline. He, however, said that the city hospitals are facing an acute shortage of medicines to treat black fungus.

    Global Covid-19 caseload tops 167.6mn

    The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 167.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.48 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University. In its latest update on Wednesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 167,628,424 and 3,481,199, respectively.

    The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 33,165,808 and 590,922, respectively, according to the CSSE.

    In terms of infections, India follows in the second place with 26,948,874 cases.

    India on Wednesday recorded 2.08 lakh new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 4,157 deaths. India’s active caseload has dropped to 24,95,591 with a dip of 91,191 cases. India’s total recoveries now stand at 2,43,50,816 so far. In the past 24 hours, 2,95,955 patients have recovered, said the Union health ministry. Recoveries continue to outnumber the daily fresh Covid cases for the 13th consecutive day. The recovery rate has increased to 89.66% while the weekly positivity rate is currently at 11.45%, the health ministry said.

    The number of daily deaths from Covid-19 in Maharashtra has risen to over 1,000, bringing the death toll to over 90,000, while new cases are under control. The number of fresh cases remained below the 25,000 level. There were 24,136 new cases on Tuesday, more than the number on Monday. There have been a total of 56,26,155 cases in the state now.

    There were 1,049 cases in Mumbai on Monday. The next day it came down to 1,029. The total number of infected people in the city rose to 698,988. Daily deaths fell from 48 to 37. There have been a total of 14,650 deaths.
