'Inactive, sedentary life...': Gujarat's cardiology centre director on why youngsters suffering heart attacks

Cases of young people suffering heart attacks has witnessed an upward trend in the post-Covid era. Director of UN Mehta Institute of Cardialogy and Research Centre, Dr Chirag Doshi talks about possible reasons for this deadly disease.

Ahmedabad: Cases of heart attacks are almost the same before and after 2020 (pre and post Covid era), however, one reason why young people are suffering these heart attacks because 35-40 per cent of them are inactive and living a sedentary life, said Dr Chirag Doshi, Director of UN Mehta Institute of Cardialogy and Research Centre.

"...According to our data analysis...If we talk about the data for the last six years, 9-10 per cent of people of the young generation (below 40 years of age) also suffered heart attacks... You must have read that after Covid, young patients are also suffering heart attacks. However, our data says that the cases are almost the same before and after 2020... The main reasons for heart attacks have been smoking and tobacco chewing. The second reason is that 35-40 per cent young generation is inactive and living a sedentary life... The stress levels have also increased...," Dr Doshi said.

Cases of heart attacks have seen an upward trend among the young people especially after the post-Covid era.
