Gujarat: A 39-year-old man, accused of killing a beggar in Uttar Pradesh and was living under a new identity in Gujarat for the last 17 years, has been arrested from Ahmedabad. The accused had killed a beggar to fake his own death and claim Rs 80 lakh insurance, police informed.

The accused, identified as Anil Singh Vijaypal Singh Chaudhary, was arrested by crime branch officials. He was a resident of Bhatta-Parsaul Village in Uttar Pradesh's Noida.  He was nabbed from Ahmedabad's Nikol area.

In 2006, an accidental death report of a cab driver was registered by Rakabanj police station in Agra. At that time, the victim was identified as Anilsingh Chaudhary by his father, who succumbed to burn injuries in an accident, the police release said.

However, the cops later came to know that Anilsingh Chaudhary was still alive and residing in Ahmedabad's Nikol area under a different identity Rajkumar Chaudhary.

During the interrogation, Anilsingh Chaudhary revealed to the police that he along with his father hatched a conspiracy to stage his death to get the insurance money.

The accused Anilsingh Chaudhary along with his family members including father and brother had lured a beggar by offering him food.

Cops informed that the accused took the beggar to a hotel near Agra and served him food laced with sedatives.

The accused then dumped the unconscious beggar in their car and deliberately rammed the vehicle against an electricity pole to portray it like an accident.

They subsequently placed the beggar on the driver's seat and set the car ablaze to show the vehicle caught fire due to the accident, said the police.

Anilsingh Chaudhary's father Vijaypalsingh identified the body as that of his son and cremated it in his native village in Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

As per the plan, Vijaypalsingh Chaudhary claimed Rs 80 lakh in accidental death insurance of his son and distributed the sum among family members, said the police.
