A family outing at the Mahisagar river in Gujarat's Anand district turned into a tragedy for a family when four of its members, including two women, drowned in the river, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred on June 6, when a family of four from Gamdi village ventured to a popular tourist spot on the outskirts of Khanpur village to take a dip in the Mahisagar river flowing from there. However, among the four, when one person started drowning, others too entered the water in an attempt to save that person's life, but tragically drowned in their attempt to do so.

Khambholaj police, in the statement released about the incident, mentioned, "Four members of a family from Gamdi village were among the tourists who came there to take a dip in the river. When one of them started drowning, three others ventured deep into the water to save that person. However, all of them eventually drowned in deep water."

The police further mentioned that though the villagers rushed to the spot to save the family from drowning, it was too late as they could only recover the bodies of the victims.

Meanwhile, a case of accidental death was registered, and the bodies of the deceased, identified as Suresh Vaghela, Prakash Vaghela, Vesuben Solanki, and Jyoti Vaghela, were then sent for a post-mortem.

Earlier, in a similar incident, four family members were swept away in the sea at Gujarat's Dandi Beach in May. The family was picnicking on the Navsari beach in the morning when the tragedy struck. Significantly, among the deceased are Sushila Gopalsinh Rajput (42), her sons Daksh (11) and Yuvraj (17), and her sister's daughter Durga (17).

Speaking of the incident, officials said, "The family was picnicking on the Navsari beach in the morning when four members were suddenly sucked into the sea. Gopalsinh (the husband of Sushila Rajput) tried hard to save them. As he failed, he raised an alarm, following which the home guards rushed to the spot. They also tried their best but failed."
