A 55-year-old woman functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was allegedly killed with swords by her neighbours in Gujarat's Amreli district on Wednesday night over a dispute, according to police. Three people have been arrested in this regard.
The woman was identified as Madhuben Joshi and her son Ravi Joshi was also injured in the attack that took place in Dhari town, said district superintendent of police Himkar Singh. Joshi had earlier served as the secretary of BJP's Amreli district unit and was also elected in the Dhari taluka panchayat.
The three accused, who live near the victim's house, engaged in a brief fight with Joshi and her son following a minor accident near her residence, informed the DSP. As the fight escalated, they attacked Joshi and her son with swords brought from their house, he added.
"While Ravi received injuries, his mother died due to a deep wound on her arm as her vein got cut in the attack. We have arrested all the three accused," Singh told reporters. Joshi's other son Ritesh claimed that the accused held a grudge against Ravi over an issue connected to bursting firecrackers near their house.
According to Ritesh, the three accused deliberately rammed their car into Ravi's two-wheeler when he was passing on his motorcycle on Wednesday, which started the scuffle between them and Joshi when the latter went to scold them.
The three accused have been identified as Rushik Mehta (22), Jayom Mehta (20) and Hariom Mehta (18), all residents of Shiv Nagar society in Dhari town, as per the police.
