Record rainfall in Junagadh, Gujarat: Schools closed, rivers overflowing

Heavy rainfall hit Junagadh and other districts in Gujarat on Monday, causing significant disruption. Junagadh recorded over 8 inches of rain in 14 hours, leading to the overflow of the Willingdon Dam and prompting water releases from several reservoirs.

Several districts in Gujarat, including Junagadh, experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, leading the district administration to declare a holiday for all schools on Tuesday. The local meteorological department has also issued a rain alert for the coming days. Junagadh recorded over 8 inches of rainfall from 6 AM to 8 PM on Monday. The Willingdon Dam reached its upper limit and overflowed, prompting authorities to release water from the Sabali, Ojat, and Bantwa-Kharo reservoirs into the lower areas.

Torrential rain in Devbhoomi Dwarka and Khambhalia

Heavy rains disrupted daily life in several areas on Monday. In addition to Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwarka received 8 inches of rain, while Khambhalia also witnessed significant rainfall. As a result, all schools in these regions were closed on Tuesday.

Rain alerts issued for multiple districts

The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rainfall in districts including Kutch, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad. Additionally, alerts have been issued for Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Rajkot, and Amreli.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated on Tuesday in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Surat, Kutch, Navsari, and Valsad. Local alerts have also been issued for Morbi, Surendranagar, Patan, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Mahisagar districts.'
