Gujarat rain fury: Heavy showers batter state, massive waterlogging reported in 176 tehsils | VIDEO

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to extremely heavy precipitation in confined regions in the state, particularly in certain areas of Saurashtra and south Gujarat districts, during the following couple of days.

After experiencing light rainfall for over a week, Gujarat, including Rajkot, Surat, and Gir Somnath districts, is now witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall, creating a flood-like circumstance at a few places. Sutrapada taluka in Gir Somnath district got 345 mm of precipitation, the highest in the state, in only 14 hours since 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to extremely heavy precipitation in confined regions in the state, particularly in certain areas of Saurashtra and south Gujarat districts, during the following couple of days. The state administration evaluated its readiness to manage what is emerging out of heavy showers and the overall monsoon condition in Gujarat.

According to SEOC, the Dhoraji taluka of the Rajkot district saw approximately 250 millimeters of rainfall in the 14 hours since 6 a.m., including 145 millimeters in just two hours. The center said Surat was likewise lashed with downpours, with around 104 mm of rain recorded during the day, upsetting normal life in the south Gujarat city. Torrential rains were also experienced in portions of the Junagadh district.

The state government said heavy precipitation is probably going to happen in the Amreli and Bhavnagar areas of the Saurashtra district and Valsad region of south Gujarat between July 19-21 and necessary directions have been given to the local administration to manage what is happening.

A total of 43 reservoirs out of Gujarat's 206 have been put on high alert because of the weighty inflow of water. The government said in a release that 18 reservoirs are on alert and that 19 more have been issued warnings. According to the release, Widespread rainfall prodded the planting of kharif crops, with 71.31 percent of the total cultivated area planted so far this season.

Considering the downpour circumstance, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) teams have been placed on alarm. The state has proactively received around 56% of normal precipitation up until this point this monsoon season.
